Looking for the perfect comfy transitional sweatshirt? Look no further than the Merchant & Mills Sidney Sweatshirt.

The Sidney is a boxy sweatshirt with a loose crew neck and finger skimming sleeves. You can make this out of sweatshirt fleece to get the perfect oversized sweatshirt look or try the Merchant & Mills Cotton Jacquard to put a chic twist on the classic sweatshirt. Either way in this beginner garment class you will learn how to attach ribbed cuffs to the neckline, cuffs and optionally* the hem of your sweatshirt!

This pattern runs quite large. We recommend consulting finished garment measurements before selecting size.

*Because of its boxy shape, we prefer leaving the ribbing off of the bottom of the sweatshirt.

Skill Level: Advancing Beginner. You need to have sewn a garment, quilt, bag or participated in a beginner sewing class prior to this class and feel comfortable using your machine.

What You’ll Learn:

  • attach cuffing to a neckline, sleeves and optionally hem
  • insert a set in sleeve
  • tips for sewing with sweatshirt fleece or cotton jacquard
  • how to cut and follow a sewing pattern
  • many tips and tricks!

Class Fee: The cost of this class is $200.25. The cost of instruction is $175 and the materials fee (required) is $25.25 and includes the includes the printed PDF pattern.

Class Schedule: This is a two session class, meeting on Saturdays November 15th & 22nd, 1PM - 4:30PM

Sizing + Fabric Requirements: See the chart in photos for the sizing guide and fabric requirements.

Fabric Recommendations: To get the structured boxy shape of Sidney, choose a medium to heavy weight cloth. Sweat shirting, jersey loopback and our cotton jacquards are ideal. For ribbing you can use pre-cut ribbing (2 - 4 precut packages of ribbing depending on if you want to add ribbing to the hem as well) or purchase ribbing by the yard. If you choose to use sweatshirt fleece you can just purchase extra fleece to use as your cuffs.

    What to Bring:

    • Prewashed fabric (see chart in photos for fabric requirements)
    • Coordinating thread
    • Sewing machine with basic accessories (foot pedal, power cord, bobbin, etc.). Bringing your own machine is encouraged, but studio machines are available—please reach out to info@lakesmakerie.com to reserve one after you register for class. Machines are limited.

Cancellation Policy: We require a minimum of 4 registered students to hold the class. (If we do not hold the class you will be refunded). If you need to cancel later than 1 week before class is held, you will receive store credit.
