Class: The Merchant & Mills Sturdy Tote with Jenny (Beginner Friendly!), Monday September 29, 11AM-3PM
Join Jenny in sewing the Sturdy Tote!
A sturdy, lined tote bag with inner pockets and turned through handles.
Skill Level: A wonderful class for beginning sewists with some machine experience! We ask that you're able to sew a straight line; back tack; and thread and unjam your machine. If you've never done those things before, check out our Meet Your Machine class first!
What You'll Learn:
- Tips for sewing with heavier fabric
- How to insert bag lining
- How to create interior bag pockets
Finished Bag Measurements: Height (minus handles) 13.75 in, Width (taken flat) 18.75 in
Fabric Requirements:
- Outer Fabric: 1 yard
- Lining Fabric: 1 yard
- Optional: 1-1.5 yards webbing depending on how long you'd like your handles to be if you'd like to have webbing handles instead of fabric handles (the pictures for this class show the bag with fabric handles)
Fabric Recommendations:
- Outer Fabric: Cotton canvas or denim or gabardine, oilskin/waxed canvas, cotton prairie cloth
- Lining Fabric: Any medium-weight cotton or linen and linen-cotton blends
What to Bring:
- Prewashed, dried and ironed fabric
- Coordinating or contrasting thread
- (1 spool of Gutermann recycled polyester is what we recommend)
- Sewing machine with basic accessories (foot pedal, power cord, bobbin, etc.). Bringing your own machine is encouraged, but studio machines are available—please reach out to info@lakemakerie.com to reserve one after you register for class. Machines are limited.
- Basic tools (such as pins, marking tools, etc.) are provided in our studio for students. We do recommend that you bring your own pair of fabric scissors if you have them.
Cancellation Policy: We require a minimum of 4 students to hold the class (if we're not able to run this class you'll be refunded). If you need to cancel within 1 week of the class, you will receive store credit.
