Class: The Back to School Lunchbox Class with Evan, Thursdays September 11 & 18, 5:30-8:30 (2 sessions)

Get ready for the school year with a handmade lunchbox—or use it to store craft projects or toiletries! This two-session class is great for advancing beginners looking to expand their sewing skills. You'll learn new zipper skills and practice bias binding interior seams. You'll also use Insul-Bright to add structure and insulation to your lunchbox and line it with food-safe vinyl. 

Skill Level: Advancing Beginner. You need to have sewn a garment, quilt, bag or participated in a beginner sewing class prior to this class and feel comfortable using your machine.

What You'll Learn: 

• How to install a zipper using continuous zipper tape
• How to attach a zipper pull to zipper tape
• How to construct a boxy, zippered bag with bias bound seams
• How to make and attach custom bias binding
• How to sew with Insul-Bright
• How to sew a food-safe vinyl lining
  

What's Included: 

• Insul-Bright batting
• Food-safe vinyl for lining (photo attached to see color/subtle print) 
• Step-by-step instructions to recreate the project bag at home (video)
• Use of classroom spray basting and tools 

Class Fee: The cost of this class is $170. The cost of instruction is $150 and the materials fee (required) is $20 and includes the pattern and all materials listed above.  

Class Schedule: This is a two session class, meeting on Thursdays September 11 and September 18 from 5:30-8:30PM.

What to Bring: 

• 1/2 yard fabric for outer fabric
• 1/2 yard fabric (or 1 fat quarter) for bias binding
• Coordinating or contrasting thread
  
• Sewing machine with basic accessories (foot pedal, power cord, bobbin, etc.). Bringing your own machine is encouraged, but studio machines are available—please reach out to info@lakemakerie.com to reserve one after you register for class. Machines are limited. 
  
• A Zipper Foot! This is the most important thing to remember to bring along. It will be crucial to the sewing process!
• Optional: 2 yards of Super Elefante 1" double-fold bias tape (if you prefer not to make your own)  
• Optional: 1/2 yard different lining fabric. Please reach out to us if you would like to use an interior fabric other than the food-safe vinyl we'll provide! 
• Optional: Any sewing tools you love using!

Cancellation Policy: We require a minimum of 4 students to hold the class (if we're not able to run this class you'll be refunded). If you need to cancel within 1 week of the class, you will receive store credit.
