





Class: Sew the Merchant and Mills Orton Bag with Loren, Sunday October 19, 9AM-1PM
Join Loren in sewing the Orton Bag!
The Orton Bag by Merchant and Mills is a simple and classic oversized lined tote. Straight stitches straight stitches straight stitches! This simple but classic bag is a great way to learn and practice the basics of sewing! You’ll learn how to cut out fabric, sew pattern pieces, mind your seam allowances, sew self-handles or attach webbing handles, incorporate lining, and more! Once you've made this bag once, we hope you feel inspired to give the other itterations a try as well. The sky is the limit, and a good handmade bag is required for the journey.
Skill Level: Beginner Friendly! We ask that you are able to sew a straight line, back tack, sew a zig zag, thread & unjam your machine, and wind your bobbin. The equivalent of taking our “Meet Your Machine” class.
Class Fee: Cost of instruction for is $100. The material fee (required) is $15 and includes a printed Orton Bag PDF Pattern and use of studio tools, for a total class fee of $115.
Class Schedule: This is a one day class on 10/19 from 9AM-1PM.
Finished Bag Measurements: Length 22 in, Width 24.5 in.
Fabric Requirements:
- Main Fabric: If your fabric is less than 52in wide, you'll need 1.5 yards. If it's 52in wider, you'll need just 1 yard.
- Lining: If your fabric is less than 52 in wide, you'll need 1 yard. If it's 52in or wider, you'll need 1/2 yard
- Optional: 1.5 yards of 1in - 1.5in wide cotton or polyester webbing for handles
Fabric Recommendations:
- Outer Fabric: Cotton canvas or denim or gabardine, oilskin/waxed canvas, cotton prairie cloth, Japanese cottons and Rifle Paper Co Cotton Canvas
- Lining Fabric: Any light to medium-weight cotton, quilting cotton, cotton woven fabric or linen and linen-cotton blends
- Optional: cotton or polyester webbing for handles

Sewing machine with basic accessories (foot pedal, power cord, bobbin, etc.). Bringing your own machine is encouraged, but studio machines are available—please reach out to info@lakesmakerie.com to reserve one after you register for class. Machines are limited.
Cancellation Policy: We require a minimum of 4 registered students to hold the class. (If we do not hold the class you will be refunded). If you need to cancel later than 1 week before class is held, you will receive store credit.
