Class: Paper Piecing for Change with Evan (Community Aid Network MN Fundraiser!), Sunday February 15, 1-4PM
In solidarity with our community, we are offering this class on a sliding scale with 100% of the proceeds going to Community Aid Network MN (CANMN), a grassroots volunteer-led organization based in Minneapolis that distributes resources like groceries and toiletries to anyone who needs them. Please donate what you can and come sew with us!
In this class, students will learn how to paper piece letters and start their own banner that reads either "IMMIGRANTS MAKE AMERICA GREAT," "IMMIGRANTS MAKE MINNESOTA GREAT," or "IMMIGRANTS MAKE MINNEAPOLIS GREAT."
This class is designed to teach the skills and process of paper piecing, not to complete a full banner during class time. Together, we’ll focus on understanding the technique so students can confidently continue and finish their banners at home.
All proceeds from the class will be donated directly to CANMN. Lakes Makerie staff and instructors are volunteering their time and Lakes Makerie will also cover the cost of the pattern and tools for paper piecing. You just need to bring yourself and fabric/thread for your banner!
Skill Level: Beginner-friendly but highly encouraged that you've used a sewing machine before
Fabric Requirements: This is the amount fabric you need for a completed banner.
-
2 yards background fabric.
-
1 yard small text fabric.
-
¾ yard large text fabric.
-
¾ yard border fabric.
-
Thread
-
If you choose to quilt your banner later you'll also need:
-
2 yards backing fabric
-
Baby size package of batting (45" by 60")
-
While we will NOT be quilting or finishing the full banner in class, the instructor will talk through next steps so students feel supported completing their project at home.
Finished Banner Size: 66”x30”
Class Schedule: This class will run on Sunday February 15 from 1-4PM.
Class Capacity: This class is open for 12 students to sign up. We do also have a morning session of this class if that works better for you!
Our goal is to welcome as many participants as possible to learn a new skill, contribute to a meaningful collective project, and raise funds in support of our community.
Come learn, sew, and show up—together.
If you cannot be with us in person or simply wish to donate, please follow this link to CANMN's website
