Learn the foundations of shirtmaking with Evan in this four-session workshop featuring the Genra Shirt by Daughter Judy!

Designed with approachable construction and thoughtful details, this pattern is an ideal introduction to shirtmaking for confident beginners looking to level up their sewing skills. Students will be making the shirt view of the Genra (dress view not pictured).

What You'll Learn:

  • Classic shirt construction techniques
  • Sewing and attaching a collar
  • Constructing a button placket
  • Setting sleeves and sewing cuffs
  • Creating clean seams and professional finishes
  • Garment fitting and finishing tips

Skill Level: Advancing beginner or intermediate sewists. You need to have sewn a garment, quilt, bag or participated in a beginner sewing class prior to this class and feel comfortable using your machine.

Class Schedule & Homework:

  • This is a four-week class, meeting one Wednesday evening (5:30-8:30PM) per week (Wednesdays June 3, 10, 17, & 24)
  • Some weeks may require homework to ensure you stay on track. Students are responsible for completing any unfinished work before the next class session.

Class Fee: The cost of this class is $330 which includes the printed pattern + PDF files for future use and use of classroom tools.

Sizing & Fabric Requirements: Click here for detailed sizing, finished garment, and fabric requirements charts. If you're unsure what size to make, get enough fabric for the largest size you think you might make and Evan can always consult on sizing during the first class!

What to Bring:

  • Main fabric (yardage based on chosen size)
  • Coordinating thread
  • 1/2" buttons x 8 (you won't need these for the first couple classes)
  • 1/2 yard light weight interfacing
  • Sewing machine with basic accessories (foot pedal, power cord, bobbin, etc.)
  • We recommend that you bring your own fabric scissors
  • Any other sewing tools you like to use at home!

Fabric Recommendations: Light to medium weight woven fabrics such as linen, cotton shirting, chambray, poplin, seersucker, lightweight denim, rayon blends, or washed cottons.

Choose fabrics with enough body to hold shirt details while still feeling comfortable and relaxed. Softer fabrics will create a more fluid, casual look, while crisp shirtings will give a more tailored finish.

Cancellation Policy: We require a minimum of 4 students to hold the class (if we're not able to run this class you'll be refunded). If you need to cancel within 1 week of the class, you will receive store credit.
