Class: The Daughter Judy Thompson Coat with Evan, starts Tuesday February 10, 5:30-8:30PM (4 sessions)
Join us to make the Thompson Coat by Daughter Judy—a modern, beautifully designed coat with clean lines, thoughtful details, and a relaxed, wearable silhouette. In this class, we will be making the shorter length version of the coat. Students may choose to sew the lined version (recommended for a polished finish) or opt to make theirs unlined if preferred.
Please note that this class will require homework between sessions, including some sewing steps. Students should plan for additional sewing time outside of class to stay on track.
Skill Level: Intermediate. You need to be comfortable reading a garment sewing pattern, finishing seams, topstitching, selecting stitches on your machine, and basic hand sewing.
What You’ll Learn: During the four sessions, you’ll learn coat-construction techniques including sewing darts, assembling a notched collar, attaching sleeves, applying facings, inserting a lining, and creating clean professional finishes. You’ll leave this class with a beautifully made coat and the confidence to tackle more outerwear projects in the future.

Sizing & Fabric Recommendations: Click here for sizing guide & fabric requirements
To ensure the best experience for first-time coat makers:
-
Choose an outer fabric that is 10 oz or lighter—ideal options include twill, lighter canvas, denim, cotton/linen blends, or similar structured but manageable fabrics.
-
Avoid very heavy denim, canvas, or wool for your first coat.
-
For lining, we recommend a lighter-weight fabric such as cotton lawn, voile, bemberg rayon, or similar to reduce bulk and ensure smooth sewing.
If you're unsure about fabric choice, stop by the shop or email us for assistance!
Cancellation Policy: We require a minimum of 4 students to hold the class (if we're not able to run this class you'll be refunded). If you need to cancel within 1 week of the class, you will receive store credit.
