The Brier Pants by Daughter Judy are a modern take on the classic sailor pant, minus all those buttons. Slightly cropped to show off a great shoe or a bare ankle, they feature a clean, wide leg that feels both tailored and relaxed. The result is an easy-to-wear pair of pants with an effortlessly polished silhouette.

The real moment is the trapunto topstitching on the waistband, which adds structure and a subtle decorative detail that gives these pants their elevated, considered finish. Thoughtfully designed to follow the body rather than fight it, the Brier Pants are a great project for learning how thoughtful construction and finishing details can make a garment feel truly special.

What You'll Learn:

  • Constructing a wide-leg, slightly cropped pair of pants
  • Working with a tailored waistband and achieving a clean, structured finish
  • Creating trapunto topstitching for added dimension and detail
  • Installing a zipper and button closure
  • Constructing and finishing pockets
  • Sewing accurate, polished seams and finishes
  • Working with pants construction techniques that can be applied to future projects
  • How thoughtful details and finishing techniques can elevate a simple garment

Skill Level: Confident beginner or intermediate sewists. You need to have sewn a garment, quilt, bag or participated in a beginner sewing class prior to this class and feel comfortable using your machine.

Fabric Recommendations: We recommend structured but workable fabrics such as mid-weight twill, cotton canvas (not overly heavy), denim under 10–12 oz, or similar fabrics that will hold shape without being overly stiff. Please come in to the shop or give us a call if you'd like more help choosing your fabric!

Students should refer to the size chart to determine their size prior to class. If you're between sizes, get enough fabric to make the larger size and Evan can help you decide which size to make during the first class.

Cancellation Policy: We require a minimum of 4 students to hold the class (if we're not able to run this class you'll be refunded). If you need to cancel within 1 week of the class, you will receive store credit.

The Brier Pants are a great project for sewists who want to build confidence with pants construction while making a timeless wardrobe staple. You'll leave with a polished pair of pants and new techniques for creating structure, detail, and professional-looking finishes in your handmade garments.
