The Donny Shirt by Friday Pattern Co. has been hard to keep on the shelf - and we can understand why! It's adorable! The Donny is a menswear-style short sleeve shirt that offers flattering feminine details such as a gathered back, lined yoke, and lapel collar. In this full day class, you will learn how to sew a self-lined yoke, stand-up lapel collar, gathers, set in sleeves and more. Sizing offered: XS-7XL.
The class will be offered over the course of two Sundays as follows:
Sunday, June 23, 2024: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Sunday, June 30, 2024: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
This class is suitable to confident beginners and above - you must have some prior experience and be able to thread your sewing machine, wind and insert the bobbin, and sew a straight stitch and back-tack.
Instruction fee is $160. Kit fee $20.00 includes the Friday Pattern Co. Donny Shirt Pattern for a total of $180. Please purchase both the instruction and the kit fee.
*You will need to pick up your pattern at our shop in order to cut your pieces prior to class. We are open 12-6 Mon-Friday and 11-5 Saturday and Sunday. We are happy to answer any basic questions about sizing and fabric. Please wash, dry, and press your fabric before and either cut out or trace your pattern in the size you'd like to make. During the first class session you'll cut your fabric.
Suggested fabrics: The Donny Shirt is designed for woven fabrics. Any sort of light to medium weight woven is suitable. If you choose a fabric like a mid-weight twill or denim you will get a more structured top. If you choose a drapier fabric like a rayon challis or silk, you will get a blousier top. See fabric quantities below:

What to bring:
- Prewashed and pressed fabric
- Cut out or traced pattern pieces
- 1/2 yd light-weight fusible interfacing
- Coordinating or contrasting thread
- Basic tools are provided in our studio for students. However, feel free to bring you own tools for your personal use.
- Machine + accessories (foot pedal, power cord, bobbins)
We recommend bringing your own machine so you can continue to learn the ins and outs of sewing on your home machine! If you need, we offer studio machines to use upon request. Machines are limited. Please feel free to reach out to us at info@lakesmakerie.com for more info.
- Lunch, Snacks, and Water. There will be a half hour lunch break. You may bring your lunch or visit our neighborhood cafe, Heather's (1 block away) for grab and go food.
Class size is Limited to 6 students. If you need to cancel later than 1 week prior class is held, you will receive store credit.
