













Class: Swimwear with Evan: Learn to Sew a Swim Top! Monday July 21 & Tuesday July 22, 12-3PM
Learn to sew your own swimwear with Evan! Choose between three different swim tops from the designer Edgewater Avenue. All three patterns are designed to be completely reversible and are a great starting place for sewing your own swimwear. :) Evan will teach you the basics of swimwear construction and how to sew stretchy fabrics with a straight stitch using our new Mettler Seraflex thread!

Swim Top Options:
1) The Georgia Top (first option pictured, scoop neck top with thicker straps, two length options)
2) The Jace Top (second option pictured, wider scoop neck with thinner straps)
3) The Avery Top (third option picture, high neck top)
Skill Level: This class is suitable to advancing beginners and above. You need to have sewn a garment, quilt, bag or participated in a beginner sewing class prior to this class and feel comfortable using your machine. This should also not be the first garment you've sewn with knit (stretchy) fabric.
What You'll Learn:
- How to sew knits with a straight stitch using Seraflex thread
- Techniques for working with swimwear fabric
- Learning how to cut swimwear fabric and working with swimwear fabric grainlines
- Hand finishings for swimwear
Class Structure: This is a two session class that runs Monday July 21 and Tuesday July 22 from 12-3PM.
Session 1: Monday July 21, 12-3PM
You'll go over the patterns and get to choose which top you'll make and which color fabric you'd like to use. You'll choose your size and cut out your swimsuit. Then Evan will give a basic lesson on techniques for sewing swimwear fabric and how to sew knits with a straight stitch using Seraflex thread. This will give you a chance to practice a little bit before starting on your swim top next class!
Session 2: Tuesday July 22, 12-3PM
You'll sew your swim top!
A Note on Sizing: We want everyone to be able to take this class if they would like! The original size chart for these tops only runs from an XS-XXL. To make sure that doesn't limit who can take this class, Evan will grade the pattern to your measurements if you fall outside the size chart (included in pictures). When you sign up please send an email to info@lakesmakerie.com letting us know the size chart doesn't include your size and Evan will get in touch with you to get it graded properly for you!
What to Bring:
- Sewing machine with basic accessories (foot pedal, power cord, bobbin, etc.). Bringing your own machine is encouraged, but studio machines are available—please reach out to info@lakemakerie.com to reserve one after you register for class. Machines are limited.
- Your preferred cutting tool: Either a pair of fabric scissors or a rotary cuter
- Optional: Any other sewing tools you love using!
Cancellation Policy:
We require a minimum of 4 students to hold the class (if we're not able to run this class you'll be refunded). If you need to cancel within 1 week of the class, you will received store credit.
