Join Loren to make the ideal spring/summer skirt!

The Zamora Skirt by Madswick is the perfect flowy skirt. Featuring a midi-length, elasticated waistband skirt for comfort. It has two gathered tiers and varying widths of tucks to create visual interest.

Class Difficulty: This CONFIDENT BEGINNER sewing class is perfect for sewists who are comfortable with basic sewing skills and want to take their skills to the next level with garment-making. You need to have sewn a garment, quilt, bag or participated in a beginner sewing class prior to this class and feel comfortable using your machine. There may be some homework assignments between classes.

This project is great for a sewist to learn new skills such as creating pin-tucks, and gathers, adding an elastic waistband, topstitching elastic, and making a double-folded hem.

If you are unsure if is this class is the right fit for you give the shop a call or shoot us an email! :)

Class Fee: The cost of this class is $270. The cost of instruction is $240 and the materials fee (required) is $30 and includes the printed PDF pattern, the PDF files for your future use, elastic, tailor's chalk, and use of all studio tools.

This is a two session class: *Please note the first session of the class (5/10) is in the morning and the second (5/17) is in the afternoon*
  • Saturday 5/10 from 9AM-2PM
  • Saturday 5/17 from 1-6PM

Notes:

*We are available during shop hours to answer any basic sizing and fabric questions.

** Please note when choosing your fabric we recommend 100% natural fiber that is a solid color or a nondirectional printed fabric (such as a floral) because it will make the pin tuck process much easier and more forgiving.

Sizing + Fabric Requirements: See the chart in photos for this class

Fabric recommendations: This pattern was designed for light to mid-weight woven fabrics such as linen, cotton poplin, and cotton lawn. Fabrics with a slight drape can be used, but we recommend avoiding fabrics with a lot of drape, such as silk if you are a beginner. Stable wovens such as cotton poplin will make creating the tucks easier as it doesn't shift easily after being pressed. Suggested fabrics from our shop are Birch Organic Cotton Poplin, 100% Linen such as Lady McElroy California Linen, Fableism Sprout, Fableism Chambray, Linen Chambray, or a nondirectional print quilting cotton or cotton lawn.

What to Bring:

  • Prewashed, dried and ironed fabric
  • Coordinating thread
  • Sewing machine with basic accessories (foot pedal, power cord, bobbin, etc.). Bringing your own machine is encouraged, but studio machines are available—please reach out to info@lakemakerie.com to reserve one after you register for class. Machines are limited.
  • Basic tools (such as pins, marking tools, etc.) are provided in our studio for students. We do recommend that you bring your own pair of fabric scissors if you have them.
If you have any questions about how much fabric or what kind of fabric to get, please feel free to stop in the shop or give us a call!! :)
