Class: Sew the Sturdy Tote (with webbing handles) with Evan (Beginner Friendly): Wednesday April 2, 5:30-8:30PM

Join Evan in sewing the Merchant & Mills Sturdy Tote! 

The Sturdy Tote by Merchant & Mills is a durable, lined bag with inner pockets, designed to hold its shape beautifully. This tote is perfect for everyday use—whether you're carrying books, groceries, or crafting supplies. In this class, you'll be making the tote with webbing handles for added durability and because it makes the tote even easier to finish! 

What You'll Learn: 

• Cutting and preparing fabric for structured bag-making
• Constructing a lined tote with inner pockets
• Attaching webbing handles securely
• Working with heavier fabrics like waxed canvas

Who This Class Is For: 

This class is perfect for beginners! We ask that you're able to thread your machine, sew a straight stitch, and backtack. If you've never used your machine at all before, we recommend our Meet Your Machine class first. This is also a great class for more advanced sewists who want to practice with oilskin. 

We also encourage men to join this class—sewing is for everyone! 

What's Included: 

• Printed pattern + PDF files for future use 
• Expert instruction on bag-making techniques 

The cost of this class is $86.25. The cost of instruction is $75 and the materials fee (required) is $11.25 and includes the printed PDF pattern. 

Sample Details: Length 18.75 in, Height 13.75 in. Made in navy and black waxed canvas with navy webbing handles 

What You Need to Bring: 

• 1 yard outer fabric (see below for fabric recommendations) 
• 1 yard lining fabric (see below for fabric recommendations)
• 1-1.5 yards of 1.5” webbing (depending on how long you'd like your straps to be)
• Coordinating or contrasting thread (1 spool of Gutermann recycled polyester is what we recommend)
• Sewing machine with basic accessories (foot pedal, power cord, bobbin, etc.). Bringing your own machine is encouraged, but studio machines are available—please reach out to info@lakemakerie.com to reserve one after you register for class. Machines are limited.
  
• We recommend that you bring your own fabric scissors if you have them (otherwise we have basic sewing tools available for use in our classroom) 
• Any other sewing tools you like to use at home! 

Fabric Recommendations: 

• Outer Fabric: Waxed canvas, oilskin, denim & gabardine, canvas
• Lining Fabric: Any medium-weight cotton
• 1.5" webbing
