Class: Beginner Garment Sewing Series with Jenny, starts Thursday July 10, 5:30-8:30PM (4 sessions)
Let's jump into the world of garment sewing together! Join Jenny for a Beginner Garment Sewing series where you will go step by step, in a slow paced class, to learn the basics of garment sewing. We will be making the Craft Studio Tee from Matchy Matchy Sewing Club.
The Craft Studio Tee is all about easygoing style and creative possibilities! Designed with beginners in mind, this pattern keeps things simple with minimal pieces and an easy-to-sew construction. The oversized, wide boxy fit is effortlessly cool, with a slightly cropped length, hint of a boat neck neckline and sleeves that hit above the wrist.
Skill Level: This class is suitable for beginners with some basic knowledge of how to work a sewing machine. You need to be able to sew a straight line, back tack, sew a zig zag, thread & unjam your machine, and wind your bobbin. If you don't have any experience with sewing machines, check out our Meet Your Machine class first (if you don't have your own machine and would like to take this class you can use one of our class machines).
What You'll Learn:
- How to choose the right fabric for your project
- How sizing works in sewing patterns and tips for choosing the right size
- How to cut out your fabric
- Ironing techniques
- How to follow a sewing pattern
- Our favorite tools for garment sewing
- How to sew a facing around a neckline
- How to hem a shirt
-
& more!
Class Fee: The cost of this class is $302. The cost of instruction is $280 and the materials fee (required) is $10 and includes the printed pattern and use of studio tools.
Fabric cost is not included in the class fee. We will discuss what suitable fabrics for this project would be on the first day and you'll have time to buy fabric for your shorts during class.
If you have fabric already that you'd like to use you must bring it to the first class so Jenny can check it and make sure it will work well for this project. Having fabric that's a good fit for your project makes a huge difference in sewing garments-- it's much easier and more fun when your fabric works for the garment you're making!
Class Schedule: This class is offered as a four part series on Thursday nights and will run 7/10, 7/17, 7/24, and 7/31 from 5:30-8:30PM.
What to Bring on the First Day:
- Sewing machine with basic accessories (foot pedal, power cord, bobbin, etc.). Bringing your own machine is encouraged, but studio machines are available—please reach out to info@lakemakerie.com to reserve one after you register for class. Machines are limited.
- Machine manual if you have one
- Optional: Any other sewing tools you love using!
Cancellation Policies: We require a minimum of 4 students to hold the class (if we're not able to run this class you'll be refunded). If you need to cancel within 1 week of the class, you will received store credit.
