Let's jump into the world of garment sewing together! Join Sarah for a Beginner's Garment Sewing series where you will go step by step, in a slow paced class, to learn the basics of garment sewing. We will be making the Ruffle Brunch Set Pant from Matchy Matchy Sewing Club.

This is a great beginner-friendly elastic-waist pant with inseam pockets and the option to add the ruffle at the bottom. These pants are super comfy, and work as a great basic that you can wear out of the house or just lounge around in. The pattern (included in the kit fee) also comes with the option to make shorts as well as the full instructions for the top which you could totally tackle after taking this class. :)

Take a look at the pictures or look at #rufflebrunch set on social media to get inspiration for your pants! Remember if ruffles aren't your thing, you can always omit the ruffle on the bottom of the pant and lengthen the pant to your desired length. You'll talk through the pattern in the first class and choose your fabric, so you don't need to commit to a look before class.

We ask that you are able to thread your sewing machine, wind and insert the bobbin, and sew a straight stitch and back-tack. No previous garment sewing is required!

Skills taught include:

  • Knowing your tools
  • Choosing the right fabric
  • Machine 101 refresher
  • Choosing correct sizing
  • Cutting out fabric
  • Ironing techniques
  • Following a pattern
  • Inseam pockets
  • Shortening/lengthening pants as you sew them
  • & more!

The series is offered as 4 Monday night classes as follows:

Monday March 31: 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Monday April 7: 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Monday April 14: 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM

The cost of this class is $318. The cost of instruction is $290 and the materials fee (required) is $28 and includes the printed PDF pattern and elastic.

Fabric/tools cost is not included. We will discuss this on the first day and have some time during our first class to shop for fabric/tools. If you'd like to buy tools before class starts (either from us or somewhere else) or have some at home here is the supply list for this class:
