Class: Absolute Beginner Garment Sewing Series with Sarah, starts February 10, 5:30-8:30PM (4 sessions)
Let's jump into the world of garment sewing together! Join Sarah for a Beginner's Garment Sewing series where you will go step by step, in a slow paced class, to learn the basics of garment sewing. We will be making the Ruby Vest from Syd Graham.
This super cute layering piece has the option to have a high or low neckline and two different lengths. In this class we'll be quilting our Ruby Vests and making them reversible without bias tape (the trim around the outside of the vest) to make it a little more absolute beginner friendly. The pattern comes with an option to add buttons or snaps but for this class we'll be doing the ties closure again to make it as straight-forward as possible. Take a look at the pictures or look at #rubyvest on social media to get inspiration for your Ruby. You'll talk through the pattern in the first class and choose your fabric, so you don't need to commit to a look before class.
We ask that you are able to thread your sewing machine, wind and insert the bobbin, and sew a straight stitch and back-tack. No previous garment sewing is required!
Skills taught include:
- Knowing your tools
- Choosing the right fabric
- Machine 101 refresher
- Choosing correct sizing
-
Cutting out fabric
- Ironing techniques
- Basic quilting
- Following a pattern
- Sewing a reversible garment (garment with lining)
- & more!

We do have studio machines that you can use if you don't have a machine or aren't able to bring yours in. Please select either "Bringing my own machine" or "I need a sewing machine" when you register for the class.
We will require a minimum of 4 registered students to hold the class. (If we do not hold the class you will be refunded). If you need to cancel later than 1 week before class is held, you will receive store credit.
